PIP: A small survey was conducted in the Vancouver area by the authors to determine some of the current beliefs and attitudes of Chinese women toward birth control and sexuality. Traditional beliefs in filial piety and in the concepts of Yin negative, female force and Yang positive, male force were subscribed to by the eldest women who also perceived a lack of fairness in the double standard permitting male promiscuity while prohibiting female sexual freedom. The elder women also felt that the balance of Yin and Yang would promote sexual satisfaction and good health homosexuality represented an imbalance and was therefore unhealthy. Only 1 woman had received sex education in the home since most sex-related topics were considered taboo. The Canadian born women had been educated in school regarding sex and felt that this experience made them more responsible in sexual matters. Strict rules about behavior during menstruation were adhered to by the eldest women: no hair-brushing, eating of hot foods, or sexual intercourse; they also viewed masturbation as acceptable in women since their Yin is a renewable resource. Masturbation in men was frowned upon since it would lead to a depletion of Yang and possibly cause infertility. The Canadian born women viewed masturbation as a normal sexual act.

Chinese Dating: The lack of middle ground
From perennially perky breasts to smooth, hairless legs, womanhood has been constantly sexualized and subjected to unrealistic standards. However, none have been as harmful, or as unexplored, as the expectation of having a tight vagina. Tight vaginas are prized in almost every society and culture that has roots in patriarchy. And this stereotype appears to heavily affect Asian women in particular. And how do they bring it on home for the win? Oh, the smallest vaginas in the game. Valinda Nwadike, MD and obstetrics and gynecology specialist in California, Maryland, can see how this stereotype exists, and whole heartedly disagrees with the premise.

Dating in China: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Part I
The rise of little puppies as an ideal type of boyfriend points toward a shift in popular culture in the country, where young women are increasingly defying traditional attitudes toward romance. The ideal romantic male figure in the eyes of Chinese women has evolved with pop-culture fads over the past decades. Throughout the s and s, the macho image as embodied by the late Japanese actor Ken Takakura—who starred in the action thriller Manhunt , the first foreign hit on Chinese big screens after the traumatic Cultural Revolution—was all the rage. Shows like Meteor Garden portrayed women in Cinderella-esque roles—damsels of lower social rank who would inevitably end up falling in love with a older, handsome, wealthy man. Inspired by South Korean fandom, many even compete among each other to see who can spend more on their idols, for example by taking out ads to celebrate their birthdays. One said her boyfriend always demands that they sleep face-to-face while cuddling. Another boasted that hers always compliments her whether she wears makes-up or not, no matter how dark her under-eye circles are. Other women said that what they like best about dating a little puppy is the feeling of being loved generously and unconditionally. Chen, a year-old woman who shuttles between Chicago and China for her software startup who only wanted to use her last name, was dating someone eight years her junior in her most recent relationship. She theorized that dating a younger man brings out the best out of both parties in the relationship because they both end up setting higher standards for themselves.
